Forecast Discussion:
Afternoon highs fell a few degrees short of the state average for mid-January, landing in the middle-to-upper 50s across the Brazos Valley Thursday afternoon. To end the week, high pressure briefly balloons over the State of Texas, bringing temperatures closer to the 70° mark Friday afternoon across the Brazos Valley. Sunshine is also in full force, as winds shift out of the north and begin to gust upwards to 35 mph, as our next major cold front nears the region. Colder weather is on the books for the upcoming weekend!
This front, Arctic in nature, brings highs back into the 50s over the weekend for the Brazos Valley. In fact, there is a small window for some wintery precipitation over the weekend, alongside a few showers for the region. However, there doesn’t appear to be any sort of significant rainfall. The largest concern comes Sunday morning, as temperatures dip into the middle 20s to lower 30s across Southeast Texas. Before that, the cold, Arctic air begins to settle into the Brazos Valley as early as Friday night. Now is the time to make those wintry weather preparations. Be sure to cover exposing piping and faucets, bring in your outdoor pets and plants, and tend to those tender gardens. Highs return to the lower 60s by Martin Luther King Monday, before another knock in temperatures by the middle of next week.
