Forecast Discussion:
Tuesday afternoon marked our final window for sunshine, as increasing clouds and moisture began building across Southeast Texas. Gray, overcast skies are expected to persist through the end of the week and into the weekend. A weak cold front slipped through the area early Tuesday morning, largely unnoticed, bringing only a brief wind shift and holding temperatures in the low 60s through late Tuesday. This front is expected to stall south of the Brazos Valley, eventually evolving into a coastal low and tapping into deeper Gulf moisture—an important setup for midweek rainfall.

Lift associated with this system will bring scattered showers and a few thunderstorms to Southeast Texas on Wednesday. The heaviest rainfall totals are expected across southern and southeastern counties, including portions of Coastal Texas, with lighter amounts farther north. As the system exits, afternoon highs will rebound into the warmer 60s on Thursday and Friday.

Looking ahead to the weekend, another Arctic cold front will surge through the Continental United States, ushering a corridor of polar air into the Central and Southern U.S. For the Brazos Valley, rain chances will return alongside a sharp drop in temperatures. A mix of freezing rain and sleet appears possible from Saturday into early Sunday. Temperatures will fall into the lower 30s Friday night and remain at or below freezing through much of Saturday and Sunday. By Monday afternoon, highs may climb just above freezing into the mid-30s. The coldest air arrives late Saturday through Monday morning, with overnight lows potentially dropping into the 15–20° range locally. Now is the time to complete any winter weather preparations.
