Forecast Discussion:
Beginning at 9:46AM Friday, March 20, 2026, the vernal equinox began in the Northern Hemisphere, marking the official start of the spring season. However, the upcoming weekend is expected to feature summerish weather across the Brazos Valley, as a high pressure system swings across the Central and Southern United States and drives temperatures in the 90s Saturday and Sunday afternoons. For now, overnight lows are expected to dip around 60°, a 30°+ difference from near freezing temperatures earlier in the week. Highs quickly rebound around 89° Saturday afternoon across the Brazos Valley.

Saturday should bring temperatures a degree or two short of record highs for late March standards. Sunday brings high temperatures several degrees away from the record book as well across the Brazos Valley. Either way, Southeast and Central Texas is expected to be very warm considering the time of the year, especially during the hottest portion of the day. Be sure to use caution outdoors, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks. Winds are also racing 10-15 mph with gusts upwards to 25 mph across the Brazos Valley through the weekend, leading to increased fire danger outdoors. Any open flame or spark can ignite quickly and cause grass or wildfires to spread quickly. High pressure continues to linger in the forecast through next week, meaning temperatures run in the middle/upper 80s and drought conditions linger across Southeast Texas.
