Forecast Discussion:
Saturday likely finds the best day through the extended forecast for outdoors plans before numerous days of widespread rainstorms arrive in the Brazos Valley. Mornings lows in the 70s turn to afternoon temperatures in the lower-to-middle 90s with isolated showers to a few stray storms this weekend for the Brazos Valley. Heat index values exceed some 10° above the actual temperature in the low 100s during the heat of the day this weekend across the Central and Southeast Texas. Be sure to practice heat safety through the weekend, take frequent breaks, and drink plenty of water as you are out and about.

Two weather features, one in the Gulf and another northward, brings a chance for widespread rain late weekend into next week for the Brazos Valley. Abundant moisture from the remnants of Tropical Depression Cristina have moved out of the Pacific and into the Southwest Gulf this week, interacting with a broad area of low pressure. Circulation around this low will push tropical (rainmaking) moisture into the Gulf Coast, bringing a chance for widespread rain for Southeast Texas. With an incoming frontal boundary (cold front) and tropical moisture colliding, widespread rainstorms and flooding will be possible Sunday through Tuesday in the Brazos Valley. Sunday night into Monday brings the best chance for that heaviest rainfall to the region, but more rain is likely Tuesday, if this frontal system stalls out over the Brazos Valley. For now, keep the umbrella handy moving into next week and have a backup plan.
