Forecast Discussion:
Our best chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms are behind us, as the Brazos Valley moves towards hot and drier weather to wrap up the week and move into the weekend. Still, isolated rainstorms are a possibility across the South Brazos Valley through the end of the week, but the chance is 20% at best. Many remain dry across the Brazos Valley, especially north of Interstate 10 across Coastal Texas. Our main focus will become the heat over the next seven to ten days for Southeast Texas.

By this upcoming weekend, rain chances fall flat, as a ridge of high pressure builds across the Southeast United States. As this high-pressure system intensifies it will lead to hotter conditions across the Brazos Valley moving into the middle of August. Afternoon highs move away from seasonable standards (mid-90s) and shift into the upper 90s to 100° over the weekend, with heat index values exceeding 105° as well. Fire danger will be elevated through the extended forecast because of dry vegetation, a lack of rainfall, hot temperatures, and breezy winds across the Brazos Valley, so please avoid outdoor burning until further notice. In fact, 5 counties in the Brazos Valley, including Leon, Madison, and Houston Counties are under burn ordinances locally. Use caution in this heat, check on your neighbors, and stay hydrated.
