Forecast Discussion:
Cooler, drier air in the works for the Brazos Valley this weekend, but first we’ll have to get through a few more 90°+ days. For now, Gulf moisture continues to pour warm, humid air into the atmosphere over the Brazos Valley, making it feel more summerish than fall outside during the morning and afternoon hours. Temperatures move into the lower/middle 90s areawide, with heat index values around the century mark during the hottest portion of the day. Wednesday finds temperatures in the lower 90s, which could near record highs for mid-October standards in the Brazos Valley. Wednesday does hold a 40% chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms for the Brazos Valley, but most of us are likely to remain dry throughout the afternoon hours.

Fortunately, this heat is expected to short, as our next corridor of colder air pours in the Brazos Valley to begin the weekend. Before that front’s arrival, high pressure filters drier air into the atmosphere to our east, meaning rain chances are expected to be low with this latest frontal system. While rainfall won’t be a concern, the wind will be howling well into the weekend for the Brazos Valley. Gusty winds are possible as early as Thursday night and continue well into Friday for the area, gusting upwards to 30 mph. Afternoon highs drop into the 70s areawide Friday before temperatures tumble into the middle 50s Saturday morning, and into the 40s by Sunday morning. Cooler air continues into the weekend, with highs in the 70s Saturday and Sunday afternoons across the Brazos Valley. Enjoy the cooler weather because highs move back into the mid/upper 80s next week.
