Forecast Discussion:
Our first cold front has swept the Brazos Valley Wednesday afternoon, bringing a cool wind and a chance for a few noisy thunderstorm through the evening hours. Thursday brings our next chance for showers and thunderstorms to the Brazos Valley, as well as cooler weather to end the week. The focal point for those showers and storms depend highly on where this cold front stalls out or starts to begin a trek back north. Overall, a 50% chance for scattered showers and storms is on the books Thursday, but the best chance for widespread rain comes this weekend.
A widespread chance for showers and stronger thunderstorms are expected Friday across the Brazos Valley. Cooler air is expected to filter inward behind this latest frontal system over the weekend. First, the NWSSPC has tagged the Brazos Valley for a low end risk for severe weather Friday, as this first frontal system limits the potential for aggressive thunderstorm development. Heavy rainfall, high winds, hail, and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out with any stronger storms, though not everyone will find severe weather. The largest concern Friday will be the risk of heavy rainfall rates and flooding concerns after a couple of days of rainfall we’ve already experienced throughout the week.
Bottom line: Thursday and Friday bring a chance for bumpy weather, so have a way to receive phone alerts and keep an eye on the radar. By the weekend, temperatures drop between the upper 60s and middle 70s across the Brazos Valley under cooler, sunny weather. No worries! Summer returns in full force next week!
