Forecast Discussion:
Hot, humid weather continues through the middle of the week for the Brazos Valley, as highs move into the 80s each afternoon. Southerly winds have funneled warm, Gulf air into the atmosphere over Southeast Texas, leading to warmer, cloudier conditions. A large trough, linked up with an incoming cold front, taps into the atmospheric moisture, leading to decent rain chances Wednesday and Thursday, as that next frontal system approaches. The NWSSPC has tagged the Brazos Valley in a 2 out of 5 (slight risk) for severe weather Wednesday, with scattered showers and strong thunderstorms on the books. The largest concern will be heavy rainfall, high winds, and large hail locally midweek. If the atmospheric lid (or “cap”) holds, storm development could limit severe weather activity Wednesday. The timing of these storms looks to be the afternoon and evening hours of Wednesday.

This next cold front slides through by late week, dropping temperatures into the lower 70s across the Brazos Valley Thursday. A few scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible as well, but the coverage is 40% at best. Isolated rain chances are on the books throughout the upcoming weekend, with a focus on Friday and Friday night across Southeast Texas. This following system likely arrives Friday, but that rainfall could linger into Mother’s Day Week for the Brazos Valley. We’ll still need to track the timing, location, and impact of these storms over the next few days. Highs are back in the 80s over the weekend.
