Forecast Discussion:
We’re settling into a very mundane, hot forecast, as an upper-level ridge of high pressure sits over the Southeastern United States this week, bringing the hottest stretch of temperatures for the Brazos Valley so far this summer season. The early morning hours look to bring the best chance to “cool” off or at least be comfortable to start each day in the Brazos Valley. The afternoon and early evening hours bringing the worst feeling outdoors, as hot weather settles into the Brazos Valley with sunshine on hand.
Throughout the upcoming week, afternoon temperatures only escalate, with highs settling around 100° each day and heat index values, exceeding the century mark locally. No rainfall is generally expected during the next several days for the Brazos Valley. Because of a lack of rainfall and dry vegetation, several counties across the Brazos Valley are under countywide burn bans. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged elsewhere in the area. By the start of the week, high pressure could slip west a bit, allowing a disturbance or two to swing through the Brazos Valley and boost local rain chances. For now, I don’t have a lot of confidence in this forecast, but a few isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible this weekend, but the chance is maybe 10-20% at best. Once that passes, high pressure reasserts itself over the region.
