Forecast Discussion:
A wonderful start to October! It was a dreary, soggy afternoon across the Brazos Valley on Thursday as widespread showers and thunderstorms moved through the region. Some locations picked up more than an inch of rain, with even higher localized totals. Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected Friday and Saturday across portions of Central and Southeast Texas.
The remnants of Pacific Hurricane Polo, combined with deep Gulf moisture and an approaching cold front, will keep rain chances elevated through the weekend. Periods of heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding, so residents across the Brazos Valley should remain weather aware. Friday has the greatest potential for heavier rainfall, although there is still some uncertainty regarding the exact timing and placement of the heaviest rain, as it will depend on the track of the upper-level low and the approaching front. Weather conditions can change quickly with these systems, so continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms remain possible on Saturday and Sunday, but at this time there’s no reason to cancel outdoor plans. Behind the front, much cooler, crisp fall air will settle into the region, bringing a refreshing start to the first full week of October.
For now, enjoy the cooler temperatures and much-needed rainfall—it finally feels like fall!
